German fest to host Iranian ‘Smile of the Mask’

Iranian short flick ‘Smile of the Mask’ has been selected to compete at the 6th edition of the Bremen Film Festival in Germany.

As its third international presence, the short film will compete at the Innovation section of the German event.

Directed by Abbas Ghazali, the short film deals with a current social problem that is hidden behind the smile of the mask.

“This was not my dream,” a tagline of ‘Smile of the Mask’ reads.

The title was filmed in Turkey in late 2020 and its distribution started right after the technical stages completed.

The flick is also set to compete at some other festivals, including the 2021 Cinevoyage International Film Festival and the 2021 Kolkata International Film Festival, both in India.

Zahra Karimi is the only actress of the film.

The Bremen film festival that was postponed from fall 2020 to spring 2021, due to the coronavirus pandemic, will host films from around the world and create an opportunity for filmmakers to share their experiences and showcase their works.

The 2021 edition of the event will be held on April 14-18.
